Ask Angela: What is Tricot?

This is our first edition of "Ask Angela" on the new Costume Lounge blog! Be sure to submit your question for Angela, and you can be featured here!

From Ana DeVillegas, Director and Choreographer of the Unofficial Dancers of the New York Giants, shown here with members of her co-ed dance team while appearing on television in February.

Q: What is our team uniform made out of? I love that feel and also the fit on the girls.
A: Thanks Ana! We love it, too. Our standard fabric is called "tricot" which is a nylon polyester blend. It is available in a variety of colors in heavyweight fabric and lightweight fabric, and sometimes print patterns. The benefit to tricot for performance wear is that it is flexible, durable, stain-resistant, does not build up static or run easily. And as you mentioned, as a performer, it feels wonderful, which makes you perform at your best!
