Film Crew Visits!

We are having quite a week here at Angela King Designs! Yesterday was very exciting for us because we had a documentary film crew from Tokyo, Japan come to get an interview from Angela and film footage around the office.

Where this interview will be featured is not fully known yet, but I can say that it's a wonderful feeling to be recognized on an international basis! We love all of our customers no doubt- and since working here I have come to the realization that it is important to reach many markets and demographics, national as well as international. The crew seemed to really enjoy themselves while they were here. Learning about Angela, fabrics, costumes, team images, and designing, were all topics that peaked their interest.

We always love having guests who are interested in the business and want to learn more. And we are definitely looking forward to watching the AKD team in this documentary!! Special thanks to the film crew for coming to visit us!

AKD 2012 Model Search Shoot

Exciting things are happening here at AKD! We just recently held our 2012 Model Search Photo Shoot at the end of July with none other than the fabulous Denver Bronco Cheerleader- Toni Damico! For obvious reasons, it is clear to see why we chose Toni for this experience. She is not only beautiful and talented, but for those who don’t know her, she is poised, outgoing, intelligent, and very passionate about what she does. In other words, the perfect person to model our Go Wild! Wear line’s newest and cutest outfits! Here's just a recap of that amazing weekend:

The few days she was here was a whirlwind of events. From the moment of meeting her at the airport, she was incredibly gracious and humble, not to mention very excited for the photo shoot! We made sure to lavish her with gifts (even though some may have been tacky Texan themed) so that she'll always remember her visit to Texas and the AKD headquarters. Our whole intent was to provide her with an unforgettable experience and create memories that she can share with her family and friends long after her trip has ended.

Toni was such a great sport- signing autographs for fans, taking pictures, and making the best out of each moment of her trip. We took her to the Ski Lodge in McQueeney, Texas, where we had dinner while watching some of the best stunts that water ski sports have to offer! It was a fun night, though we had to prepare for the next day which was going to be full of promotional activities involving Toni.

The day of the photo shoot was the biggest and busiest day for all of us. We first filmed Toni’s AKD promo video out on Lake McQueeney so that we could get some good shots of her to use in our upcoming model searches. We were even lucky enough to have a few people from The Sideline Group come to take photos and interview Angela and Toni for their upcoming issue of The Playbook, out this fall! The photo shoot itself was the best part of the weekend. To see all of the energy and charisma from Toni and the Go Wild! models in front of the camera was truly amazing. We couldn’t have had better girls modeling our outfits, probably because they looked so fabulous in them! Toni of course looked incredible in everything she modeled and all of the shots we took of her turned out flawless. It is going to be difficult finding someone who can fill her shoes for next year!

Her trip ended with a tour of the San Antonio Riverwalk and historic Alamo. We had to make sure she did some tourist-y things too! Great Mexican food and the culture that Texas has to offer were just what we thought she needed before we sent her back home. All in all, it was a memorable weekend which we, at Angela King Designs will never forget, and I think it is safe to say Toni won’t either! We would love to have her visit again, guest for next year’s photo shoot perhaps? I think yes!

And last but not least, GO BRONCOS!!

Ask Angela: What is Tricot?

This is our first edition of "Ask Angela" on the new Costume Lounge blog! Be sure to submit your question for Angela, and you can be featured here!

From Ana DeVillegas, Director and Choreographer of the Unofficial Dancers of the New York Giants, shown here with members of her co-ed dance team while appearing on television in February.

Q: What is our team uniform made out of? I love that feel and also the fit on the girls.
A: Thanks Ana! We love it, too. Our standard fabric is called "tricot" which is a nylon polyester blend. It is available in a variety of colors in heavyweight fabric and lightweight fabric, and sometimes print patterns. The benefit to tricot for performance wear is that it is flexible, durable, stain-resistant, does not build up static or run easily. And as you mentioned, as a performer, it feels wonderful, which makes you perform at your best!
